Spoke to the director and we have decided to unfortunately cancel the Key West draft tournament that was scheduled for the weekend of February 2-4…due to not enough player registrations for the event and unreasonable high hotel rates. The high lodging prices did cause a lot of players to not register for the event…as I had conversations with several dozen players. I was born in Key West and have stayed there many many times. I understand hotel rates are higher and usually run $150-$300 per night for a 3 or 4 star hotel room…which is high, but within reason. I was there in March this year and paid $230 per night. That same room at La Concha Key West is currently $549 per night for the February tournament dates. It would’ve been cool to have played ball in paradise.
I’ll be contacting all players that have already paid for Key West today to issue full 100% refunds.
Jacksonville is the next draft tournament on the schedule in March and those numbers look good already.
I apologize for any inconveniences that this may have caused anyone. We had 7 draft tournaments in 2023 and all 7 of them happened. Thank you to everyone that made 2023 a huge success. Hopefully we will continue to grow and have all events after Key West in 2024 do very well. I’m amazed at how many players have already registered and paid for cool places like Anchorage, Alaska. Looking forward to the new year and cool new adventures!
